Bjarke Ingels

Bjarke Ingels is a celebrated architect and the founder of Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), which he started in 2006. The Danish architect has completed innovative projects around the world, known for his optimistic, inventive, and almost playful designs.

He launched his professional career at OMA in Rotterdam, after studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and Technica Superior de Arquitectura in Barcelona. He then co-founded PLOT Architects with Julien de Smedt. Since establishing his own practice, he has opened offices in Copenhagen and New York and authored a manifesto titled Yes Is More in which he outlined a philosophy of “pragmatic utopian architecture” that embraces the demands of a local environment and the imperatives of sustainable, practical design.

The twisting towers he designed for the luxurious Grove at Grand Bay exemplifies his conviction that architecture is as much about context and environment as it is about structures. The sculptural residential buildings in Coconut Grove are an exercise in maximizing views, with extended balconies that provide shelter from excessive heat and sunlight. The graceful silhouette of Grove at Grand Bay, completed in 2016, has become a reference point for the Coconut Grove neighborhood.

Grove at Grand Bay

With its Bjarke Ingels-designed towers, Grove at Grand Bay has modernized the Coconut Grove skyline and energized the neighborhood. Thanks to its responsible design and environmental awareness, it’s also giving back to it.
